Biography
Dr Steven Lane is an experienced clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre Chermside. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Queensland and subsequently completed his clinical and laboratory haematology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital. From 2008-2011, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA and completed his PhD. He is Professor of Medicine at University of Queensland.
Dr Lane is the past President of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ). His lab at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute investigates new treatments for blood cancers and is supported by the National Health and Medical Research Council, Medical Research Futures Fund, Leukaemia Foundation and philanthropic donations. He has received numerous awards including the CSL Centenary Fellowship, NHMRC Leadership Investigator Fellowship, 2022 Metro North Researcher of the Year and Don Metcalf Prize for stem cell research.
Dr Lane is experienced in caring for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant blood cancers and disorders, with a particular focus on myeloid disorders such as acute myeloid leukaemia, myelodysplasia and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
